Senators, DPWH Linked to Flood Project Scam

Brice Hernandez accuses Senators Estrada and Villanueva, along with DPWH officials, of corruption in Bulacan flood control projects.

Bulacan, Philippines – Former Bulacan assistant district engineer Brice Hernandez has made startling allegations of corruption and irregularities in flood control projects, implicating prominent figures including Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva, as well as Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials Usec. Robert Bernando, and former Bulacan First District Engineer Henry Alcantara.

Hernandez claims that the anomalies involve the misappropriation of funds, substandard construction, and questionable bidding processes related to several flood control projects in Bulacan. According to Hernandez, these issues have led to ineffective flood mitigation and increased risks for local communities.

“The people of Bulacan deserve to know where their money is going and why these projects are failing to protect them from floods,” Hernandez stated in a press conference held earlier today. He presented documents and alleged evidence suggesting that the involved parties colluded to divert funds for personal gain, while compromising the quality of the projects.

Senator Estrada’s office has released a statement denying the allegations, calling them “baseless and politically motivated.” Similarly, Senator Villanueva’s spokesperson dismissed the claims as “completely false and without merit.”

The DPWH has yet to issue an official statement, but Usec. Bernando is reportedly preparing a response to address the accusations. Former District Engineer Alcantara could not be reached for comment.

The allegations have sparked outrage among Bulacan residents and calls for a thorough investigation. Several civic groups have announced plans to stage protests demanding accountability from the implicated officials.

The Senate and the Ombudsman have yet to comment on whether they will launch an investigation into the matter. The coming weeks will likely be crucial as more details emerge and the accused officials respond to the serious allegations leveled against them. – omnizers
