MANILA β Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has pledged to continue the initiatives started by his predecessor, Vince Dizon, with a strong focus on addressing the needs and concerns of Filipino commuters.
During the turnover ceremony at the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday, Lopez emphasized his commitment to prioritizing commuters’ interests and resolving pressing transportation issues. This commitment follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to create a commuter-centric transport system.

“Secretary Vince and I have seen firsthand the struggles of commuters, which is why we must prioritize their interests and welfare,” Lopez stated. He stressed the importance of going out into the field to truly understand and address the problems faced by commuters, saying, “If we genuinely want to solve the problems of commuters, we need to be out there where the work is β on the streets.”
Lopez also highlighted the importance of maintaining accountability on the roads to ensure the safety of commuters, pedestrians, and motorists. “We need to hold reckless motorists and drivers accountable. We will not stop this,” the new transport chief asserted.
He expressed his gratitude to former Secretary Vince Dizon for his work in promoting comprehensive improvements to the transport system and accelerating major projects that benefit commuters.
Dizon expressed confidence in Lopez’s ability to continue the transformation of the country’s transport system. “When the President asked me for a name, I only gave one: Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez,” Dizon said. “The President trusts you. The Cabinet trusts you. The people of DOTr trust you, and I’m sure the public will trust you.”
